Cheshire County LTA recently paid tribute to Barbara Newnes, one of the county’s longest serving volunteers, who stepped down from the Executive earlier this year.
Barbara Newnes became Chairman of the Competitions and Tournaments Committee in 1992 and remained in that post until 2012 when she became our President. During and after that 20 year stint as Chairman of Competitions and Tournaments Committee, Barbara has been an active member of various other County committees and served continuously on the CCLTA Executive.
Barbara is very well known, not just in Cheshire but by tennis supporters, officials and players all over Britain. An open-minded and approachable lady, if Barbara is there, you know you will have fun!!! This tireless devotion to Cheshire and to two very successful tennis playing granddaughters would have been extremely difficult, if not impossible, without the unstinting support and encouragement of her late husband Chris.
On presenting Barbara with a bouquet, Rob Forster, Cheshire County LTA President said “ I doubt anyone knows more people in Cheshire tennis circles or is better known than Barbara. We are so fortunate to have such a marvellous representative and although Barbara has stepped down from the CCLTA Executive, she will still be involved in many other committees. On behalf of Cheshire LTA I'd like to thank Barbara for all her time and hard work over the many years and hope that we continue to benefit from her support and that we see her at many more CCLTA events.”
Thank you Barbara!
