The main finals of the Veterans competition were played at Nantwich tennis club on Sunday September 11th.The players had to contend with difficult conditions with the sun and wind but at least it didn’t rain.
In the Mens’ final Hale beat Lane. The match was drawn at 2-2 in rubbers and 6 sets each so an extra set was played which Hale won 7-5.
In the Ladies event Nantwich took advantage of playing on their favoured surface and beat Bramhall Lane.
Rob Forster, President of CCLTA, thanked Nantwich for hosting the finals and especially the Ladies who provided a lovely tea. He also thanked Linda Simpson for organising the event and remarked on this being her last year as organiser. He then presented the Shields to the winning captains.

The Veterans Plate finals
The Plate finals were played at Lane tennis club, Widnes on Sunday September 25th. Unfortunately the weather played its part again with lots of showers and then bright sunshine and wind.
In the Mens’ event Hoylake defeated Alderley 4-0 after a very close first rubber between the 2nd pairs.
In the Ladies final Hooton defeated Hale. The match was evenly balanced after the first round at 1-1. Hootons 1st pair then won their second rubber and Hale conceded the last rubber when they reached 1 set all.
Linda Simpson on behalf of Cheshire LTA thanked Lane for hosting the finals and especially Trevor Payton who was a great help during the afternoon. She then presented the Shields to the winning captains.
