Delight for Doubletrees School

Monday, July 24, 2017

Last Tuesday saw a fantastic day of tennis action in Newquay at the Annual Schools Festival for youngsters with additional needs.

The day was broken down into 2 sections with the Heron Coaches, brilliantly supported by the young Sports Leaders from Newquay Thretherras School, providing a range of fun tennis activities and skills challenges for the youngsters to enjoy, followed by fun tennis matches.

The overall winners were the team from Doubletrees School, who as well as showing great tennis skills also displayed fantastic teamwork and camaraderie. However, the day was much bigger than just the results and the effort and enthusiasm shown by all the players and their teachers and support staff was tremendous and really helped to make this such a great day. Praise also goes to the teams from Treviglas School and Cape School who took the second and third places respectively.

Tennis is a sport that is enjoyed by players of all ages and ability levels and through Cornwall’s Disability Tennis Network there are opportunities for players with all sorts of additional needs to experience, enjoy and progress at tennis.

Many thanks also go to Heron Tennis for kindly providing the facilities for free and to Steve Hillman, Cornwall’s inclusion officer, for his help and support.

If you or anyone you know, have any additional needs and might be interested in giving tennis a try or finding out more information, please contact Paul Roberts on 07801 369242.
