Players from Devon and Cornwall whose efforts playing in the Mini Tour circuit all season to be at the top of the Mini Tour Leaderboards saw them qualify for the Grand Finals which took place on Sunday 20th March at the South Devon Tennis Centre, Ivybridge.
The red ball final saw players aged from 5 to 8 years take part. Cornish players took both the winner and runner up places in what was a really great morning's tennis.
Congratulations to winner Ethan Cattran-Graham and runner up Reeve Seddon.
The 5 player 'green army' from Exwick Tennis Club formed the majority of the Devon red ball qualifiers and did their coaches and parents proud on the day.
The orange ball final also went Cornwall's way with Archie Mallett just edging it over Devon's Joshua Craze in a highly competitive final, winning 8-6, 6-8, 7-4
The green ball qualifiers took to the courts in the afternnon and yet again, spectators were treated to an enjoyable and exciting competition. Devon's Nathan Lee and George Guy met in the final with Nathan coming out on top 5-3.
Sue Eames, Tennis Cornwall Chairperson, presented the prizes.
Organiser Chris Bawden said, " Today was an absolute pleasure for everyone involved. The children played with great spirit and sportsmanship and parents and coaches should all be very proud of them. It was great to see some exciting matches played in such a friendly and, we hope, fun environment."
The Devon & Cornwall Mini Tour circuit starts again in April with events taking place at clubs across both Counties. Players earn points for matches played and additional points for matches won which are recorded on a leaderboard in each ball colour.
The Mini Tour circuit of events helps young players learn how to play matches and experience winning and losing on a small stage. It is an important step in growing a player's experience and skill and can provide the confidence for players to move on to more challenging competition as their game develops.
