The Powder Byrne Trophy has been going on for many years now, but this was the first year that they held a minis event. It was such a huge success, that they will definitely be hosting another minis event in the future!
Altogether 14 regions entered the minis tournament with the winner from each region invited to Bisham Abbey for the final.
Finals day was fantastic - the players were all so talented and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. There was a free coaching clinic from 9am - 10am that most players attended, travelling from all areas of the country to take part.
The finals started with a round robin, with each player competiting in at least 6 matches. Both Louis Davey and Alex Lewis won their semi finals in true competative style. The final saw both boys play some fantastic tennis, it was very tense, close match, but with nerves of steel Louis managed to take the victory 10-8.
For winning the first ever Powder Byrne Minis Tennis Trophy, Louis won:
- Dunlop D-Squad Platinum Contract (1 year)
- large Dunlop holdall
- Dunlop racket thermos
- bag of 12 indoor Slazenger red balls
- bag of 9 outdoor Dunlop red balls
- Can of Dunlop All Court balls (World's number 1 tennis ball)
- Sebastien Foucan book on freerunning
As you can see the sponsor 'Dunlop' were very generous!!!
Congratulations Louis and good luck for the rest of the season.
