Over 55's take on South Wales

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Neil, David and Keith left Cornwall in good spirits around 7am, stopping at Taunton for an energy building brunch. They arrived at Cardiff at 11am to meet Brian.

Neil took acting captain’s decision that singles players should top up with coffee and cheese cake.

This worked for Keith who breezed his way through to a 6-3 6-4 victory.
Unfortunately, this had the opposite effect on Neil, who lost 6-3 6-3 to a very Canadian sounding Welshman, who complained he couldn’t breath in the very oppressive atmosphere of the indoor venue!  Neil swears he keeps getting the better singles player in each match, no matter what the ratings say!

Brian and David lost first doubles 6-3 6-2.

This left Cornwall down 2 rubbers to 1, with all to do in the second phase.

Neil and by his own admission, an under par Keith understood why Brian and David lost their first rubber, as the Welsh doubles pair were very solid, beating the Cornwall singles pair by 6-4 6-2.
Brian and David compounded the loss by sliding to a 6-0 6-2 loss to the Welsh singles pair.

Match lost by 4 rubbers to 1, but the South Wales team thought to be the strongest opposition to date, were very good.  Better luck at home to Leicestershire on Saturday!
