The 16th Annual Indoor Championships took place and the Dragon Centre in Bodmin on 19th, 20th & 21st of March, a record entry for the Men’s singles concluded with Ryan Fern (Truro) beating Adam Hayward 4-6 6-1 1-0(7) a very close match taking the title of Men’s singles for the 12th time.
There were great performances in the tournament from a number of the men but junior Ben Ward (Torpoint) 15 years old had a ‘good running’ getting to the semi finals, he was eventually beaten by the winner Ryan Fern 1-6 4-6, an excellent effort.
The Ladies Cup has a new name on it this year. Junior Lauren Norton (Newquay) beat Charlotte Pinch (Wadebridge) in a hard fought match resulting 6-3 3-6 6-1.
The Men’s Doubles was won by Ryan Fern & Adam Hayward who beat Richard Wilson and Dan Mock 6-3 6-0 and the Ladies Doubles was won by Imogen Harry and Sarah Arnold (Penzance) who beat Dory Crellin & Sally Ann Homer (Truro) 6-1 6-3.
Two Junior players won the consolation events – Jack Puckey (Looe) beat Elliott Dunn (Truro) 6-2 6-4 and Imogen Harry (Penzance) beat Lucy Colville (Launceston) 6-2 6-1.
It was a great tournament, some excellent matches took place and it was great to see a number of ‘New Faces’ taking part.
