Young Volunteers Forum 2013

Thursday, March 14, 2013

12 of the Regions best young tennis volunteers were invited to the first of 11 Young Volunteers Forums being run by the LTA across GB in the coming months. The Forum was run by Andy Trott, LTA Tennis Development Officer supported by Jenny Box, LTA Volunteer Engagement Manager.

The Forum involved on court activities including leading a coaching session, running informal competitions, how to use LTA products to increase participation and a touchtennis tournament won by India Rojano of Leverton Williams in Cornwall. After lunch the volunteers spent some time learning about volunteering opportunities in tennis and jobs in tennis including a presentation from award winning Angela Law, University Tennis Coordinator from Exeter University who continues to successfully attract hundreds of students in to the programme. The group were then asked to spend time considering their ultimate tennis club and then pitch their vision and business case to Andy and Jenny for investment, Andy and Jenny were both really impressed with the imagination, vision and team work amongst the groups with two groups receiving investment (no cash changed hands, just wine gums for a range of reasons).

“It was great to spend time with this group of young volunteers each of whom has a range of talents and experiences which stand them in good stead for their futures, I felt that each of them left with a clear idea on where they would like to go next and our job is now to support them and offer them more opportunities and experiences to improve their confidence and skills on and off court.” Andy Trott.
