Cornwall U18 girls travelled to Shrewsbury to compete in the prestigious Aegon County Cup. The girls faces tough competition against West of Scotland, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire but were feeling confident of a successful weekend with an extremely talented group of players consisting of: Alisa Cole (Capt), Beth Cole, Shannon Sandy, Tamsin Sandy, Nadia Rawson, Amy Johns, Niamh Snell and Anya Gough supported by a well experienced coaching team of Ryan Fern, Sarah Arnold and Claire Tresidder.
The competition started with one end of the country facing the other with the Cornish flag flying high at the end of the day with Cornwall winning 7-2. Day two and Cornwall faced Lincolnshire where it became apparent that Cornwall were a force to be reckoned with, taking a comfortable 8-1 win. The final day and promotion was ours to take, Northamptonshire were undefeated as well and it was a race to win 5 out of the 9 matches. With Cornish spirit flowing there was an eagerness to do Cornwall proud and the girls certainly did winning all their singles matches securing the promotion.
The girls should be commended on their performance and the coaches would like to thank Alisa Cole, Amy Johns, Tamsin Sandy and Shannon Sandy for their contribution over the years to the U18 Cornwall Team.
