Players highlights by Will, with contributions from Morgan and Robbie

8 members of Cornwall and Devon’s team Flybe were flown to Jersey on Friday the 19th October 2012 to play and train with the Channel Island tennis squad.  The team flew with Flybe from Exeter airport and stayed at Durrell wildlife park in Jersey.

Arrival:  We were pleased when we arrived at our destination as having driven from places all around Devon and Cornwall, waited at the airport and driven to Durrell park it seemed like we had travelled all day!

Saturday morning: Waking up in a wildlife park was really good as we woke up listening to all the animals conversing with each other.

Saturday Tennis: We enjoyed Saturday because we got to play very challenging opponents. To add to that, the full ball squad played a high level tournament and were extremely successful.

Saturday after tennis: After the tennis we went to the wildlife park and saw animals such as Gorillas, Meer cats, hogs, snakes, frogs and many more weird and wonderful rare breeds.

Sunday: Sunday was a keenly contested match between Jersey and Team Flybe.   The tension was building; Neither side were willing to give in without a fight and going into the last matches team Flybe were just behind in points, and still had all to play for.  The overall result would be extremely close and would be depend on the results of the last games.  With a final push, Team Flybe showed all their determination and won the all so important last few matches.

It was announcement time; both teams stood around and listened...

“In second place losing by 1 point it is, Jersey” Team Flybe had won, but only by 1 point!

The team were really pleased and proud at beating the Jersey side and of the standard of tennis they had played all weekend.  Even a delayed flight couldn’t dampen their spirits, which were still evident when they arrived back at Exeter airport.
