Bad weather does not stop play at Hayle

Hayle Lawn Tennis Club recently completed the 2012 Junior Closed Championship.  Bad weather during the Championship and a rapidly expanding junior programme, caused some of the finals to be postponed until Junior Club Night on 24th August 2012. By that date the only final remaining was the 18u Boys Singles. 'A' team player Luke McKinnell beat Tim Carney 6-0, 6-3.

Luke and Tim then teamed up to win the 18u Boys Doubles. Having raced to a first set lead of 6-0, James Brooks and Graham Rodda fought to 7-5 before losing the second set.

Janner Bindiren, having recently joined the Club, and being coached at Hayle by the recently appointed coach, James Preston, from the highly rated LevertonWilliams Academy, was runner up to Luke McKinnell in the U14 Boys Singles (4-6, 1-6) but beat Jack Thornton 4-2, 4-0 to win the U12 Boys Singles. Jack, however, was successful in the U14 Boys Doubles. With his partner, Finn Rule, they beat twins Scott and Harry Butterworth .

Mini Tennis events included a Red Ball final in which Katie Hampson beat Noah Kitchen 10-8.

The Orange Ball event took the form of a Round Robin. The event winner was Hannah Body, the LTA regulations event winner was Mollie Clemens. Second place was gained by Katie Hampson with Sophie Kitchen third.

The Green Ball event was won by Mollie Clemens with Hannah Body second and Sophie Kitchen third.

In true Olympic Year fashion, all winners were awarded gold medals with runners-up receiving silver medals.

Bronze medals were awarded in events where there was a third place.

The Chairman, Bob Ratcliffe, commented on the true sportsmanship and immaculate behaviour of all competitors throughout the events and expressed his delight at the progress of the Junior section of the Club.
