For the second year in a row the West Cumbria Under 16 Tennis league was won by Maryport Junior first team.
With teams from Lorton, Seascale, Stainburn, Silloth and a second team from Maryport taking part over the summer months it has been a great success as more than 30 junior players took part over 15 fixtures on a home or away basis.
Organiser David Wise was really pleased with the success of the event, saying “This is the fourth year that the league has been in existence and it’s probably been the best with many matches going down to the wire. With Tennis being very much in the public domain at the moment after the successes of Andy Murray, Heather Watson and Laura Robson it is very important that local players have access to such competition and we are very thankful that the adult West Cumbria Tennis League continue to support and finance this great event.
“It has been a great summer for Tennis in the area and we would also like to thank Maryport Neighbourhood Forum for their support of the annual Maryport coaching week as well at Netherhall Sports Centre for their generous free use of the courts during the Maryport Open which was a fantastic success”.
