Another memorable mini red tour event saw Ullswaters’ Ethan Rudd come through three tense nail-biting matches to claim a thrilling victory over Workington’s Casey Pattinson in the final and Carlisle’s Lauren Bell continue her run of great form to take a second consecutive title after edging out Zoe Dalton.
In a field of 18 players and with great matches taking place on every court Ethan’s success was even more remarkable when you consider that he was 9-4 down in his quarter final and facing 5 match points against Lorton’s ever improving Hugo Lofgren. Having somehow clawed his way back to win 8 points in a row he then went on to edge out Carlisle’s Jonathan Davies in another tight match before coming back from 6-2 in the final against Silloth winner Casey. Casey himself had to fight all the way after tight matches against impressive debutant Jack Mandle in the quarter final and another great player, Cameron Cowan in the semis. In the girls Lauren and Zoe proved their standing as some of the best girls in the county by playing out their second high quality final in a row.
The tour now moves on to Stainburn school on the 28th of December as the race hots up for the grand finals in March.
