Caroline wrote this report about the weekend;
"The first day saw us start against Somerset playing singles in the alternative format due to Isle of Man withdrawing. We knew we would be up against tough opposition with a strong depth Somerset team. Harri took her singles to a hard fought 3 sets but was unfortunate to lose. Katie was on form and stormed through with a good win. Laura, Rebecca, Emily and Rachael all found their opponents too strong, leaving us 1-5 down after the singles. Next saw us compete against Beds in singles. Katie was too strong for her opposition, winning comfortably. Rachael found her opponent too good while Rebecca and Emily fought hard over 3 sets only to lose, leaving us 1-3 down with 2 matches to play. Laura came back from a set down to power her way to a well played 3 sets. Harri was comfortable in winning her late starting game, thus leaving it poised at an exciting 3-3.
"Day 2 saw us start against Somerset in the doubles. Joss and Rebecca couldn't find their rhythm, losing in 2 sets.Harri and Emily came close in the 2nd set, but evenutally lost. Katie and Laura turned their match around with a strong finish on a match tie-break. The fixture finished 2-7 to Somerset.
"With us poised at 3-3 against Beds, we were ready to play. Katie and Laura were excellent against the No. 1 pair, storming through in straight sets. Rebecca and Joss found some rhythm but couldn't quite put it together for victory, leaving it an exciting 4-4. Harri and Emily pulled their match back to 1 set all, leaving it to be decided in a match tie-break. They put together a strong and solid performance to secure a 5-4 win, vreating a deja vu to last year. This left us 2nd in the group.
"Thanks to them all for putting in great preparation, showing enthusiasm and competing well. Well done to Laura Steel who now leaves the 18U agr group.
"Cheers to the Cumbrian boys team for great support while we were all in Welwyn and taking care of the Cumbria flag! The girls had a great weekend, competed well and did their county proud."
