Cumbria Awards Prove A Great Success

The Cumbria LTA Awards took place in Penrith on 1st November 2013.

The annual awards were held at Penrith North Lakes Hotel, and celebrated the successes of tennis in Cumbria over the last 12 months. Players, coaches, volunteers and clubs were all celebrated and recognised for their tireless efforts that they put into Cumbrian tennis. Over 130 people attended the awards which Andrew Lewandowski, head of Talent Management at the LTA, presented along with Jo Cunliffe and Pat Taylor.

Along with the nominated awards, players and teams were also recognised for winning Aegon Team Tennis 2013, Winter Leagues, Road to Wimbledon and the County Closed.

In the nominated categories, the following people were recognised:

Most Improved Mini Boy: Oscar Morgan
Most Improved Mini Girl: Caitlin Almond
Most Improved Boy, 11-18 years: Ali Hassan
Most Improved Girl, 11-18 years: Megan Almond
Junior Volunteer of the Year: Richard Strong
Adult Volunteer of the Year: David Houghton
Referee / Organiser of the Year: David Wise
Place to Play of the Year: Heversham with Milnthorpe Tennis Club
Team of the Year: 12&U Girls County Cup Team
Coach of the Year: Rob Ivinson (Development) and Jon Griffin (Performance)
Cumbria Mini Player of the Year: James Griffin
Cumbria Junior Girl of the Year: Grace Eland
Cumbria Junior Boy of the Year: Sam Clarke
Chris Fidler Memorial Trophy: 12&U Girls County Cup Team

Pat Henderson, secretary of Cumbria LTA, was also awarded with a special prize to recognise her for all her hard work contributing to Cumbrian tennis over many years. She is stepping down from the Cumbria LTA committee and we thank her for all her hard work.

The whole evening was a huge success and thank you to everyone who came and made the night what it was!
