May sees the Aegon GB Pro-Series return to The Northumberland Club from Sunday 4 – Saturday 10 May 2014.
The event is one of three Men’s $10,000 events in the pro clay court season in Britain, and attracts a good combination of British and overseas professional players gracing the County Ground courts. ITF Pro-Circuit $10,000 events, are where all the top players including Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, and Murray, started their professional careers.
With most of the player’s world ranked between 250 and 800, the 2013 event saw current British number 2 Dan Evans in action, whilst the final saw un-seeded Ashley Hewitt stage a remarkable comeback to beat 2nd seeded French player Axel Michon 46 76(6) 63, to win his maiden pro singles title.
The 2014 line up is to be confirmed in mid April, and will appear on the Club Web site once published.
The qualifying event starts Sunday 4 May, and the main draw Tuesday 6 May. The Doubles Final is scheduled for Friday 9th, and the Men’s Singles Final on Saturday 10 May.
Tournament Director, Richard Joyner said ‘We are delighted to be returning to Newcastle for the
Aegon GB Pro-Series event. Everyone is always made to feel so welcome, the players enjoy the proximity of the hotels to the club and Saturday in particular promises to be a great atmosphere with the club again hosting their Club Final’s around the Pro final, together with a planned ‘Club Open day’, and new for 2014 a Visually Impaired tournament also on Saturday 10 May.’
