Maryport Tennis Club’s annual floodlit Christmas Cracker matchplay event took place on Monday the 30th of December 2013, after it’s resurrection last year.
An earlier cancellation and serious doubt about the event due to the weather 13 players did get on the courts from 5pm for almost 4 hours of good competitive match play.
All were fuelled by soup and hot dogs expertly prepared by Shaun and Dot Savage, Michelle Barker and Stuart Almond there was also a raffle for a tennis bag with funds going towards further social events; Organiser David Wise was delighted with the outcome: “The event was seriously in doubt until the very last minute as the weather in the daytime had been atrocious and I had to cancel the earlier Green ball matchplay but our personal weather forecaster Shaun “John Kettley” Savage got it spot on and a great night of matchplay and socialising ensued”; My thanks to go Shaun, Dot, Michelle and Stuart for putting on such a great night”.
The winner of the racket bag was Salli Pilcher from Seascale Tennis Club.
