Cumbria 18U Boys Finish 2nd at Shrewsbury

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Cumbria boys had a good weekend at 18U County Cup winning two out of their three ties.

The County Cup team of Sam Clark, Christopher Edge, James Kirkpatrick, Louis Glaves, Alex Meek, Albert Glaves, Patrick Stewart-Swan and Joseph Wilkinson along with their coach Jon Griffin headed to Shrewsbury for the Boys 18U County Cup and 3 days of challenging tennis.

Day one was against Staffordshire with the boys playing some strong tennis and having some close three set matches and James Kirkpatrick winning his singles match but unfortunately the day finished with Cumbria losing 6-3.

On day two we had a fantastic start winning all of our singles matches which had the team going into the doubles on a high which continues when they ended the day with a 8-1 win against North Wales.

Day three saw Cumbria’s boys playing the South of Scotland, this was to be a had match however after the singles they found that they were 4-2 up they then played some fantastic doubles to end up winning the day 6-3.

Overall Cumbria boys had a good weekend finishing 2nd in their group.  This was the last year James Kirkpatrick and Alex Meek will be able to play for the 18U team as they will be moving now onto senior tennis, we wish them well for the future.
