A fascinating two hours of highly competitive and high quality tennis saw Carlisle’s Lauren Bell and Workington’s Casey Pattinson emerge as winners of the west Cumbria mini red tour for the 2013/14 winter season.
With the top 16 players over the winter taking part the event was always going to be good but match after compelling match proved that Cumbria has an abundance of fine young tennis players in their midst, making for a very bright future for the area. In keeping with the high level of play spectators were treat to two fantastic finals in which Lauren overcome leaderboard winner Zoe Dalton 10 points to 6 and Casey edged out a very focused Carlisle’s Cameron Cowan 12-10 to take their respective titles.
Organiser David Wise commented: “the funding from the sale of Ashfield Tennis Club has once again been put to great use and after three years of this event it is again plain to see that making competition available to local players has such a fantastic effect”. “they improve rapidly, have goals to achieve and make a new set of friends along the way”.
The consolation finals were won by Zaynab Brooks (beat Emma Holecova 10-5) and Daniel Dalton (beat Jonathan Davies 14-12)
