The Cumbria Men's over 65 's tennis team have achieved successive promotions in the Senior's Inter County Tennis Championships and in 2016 will play in Division 1. This year the team have recorded comfortable victories over Suffolk and Norfolk (both 5-0) and Herefordshire and Worcestershire and local rivals Lancashire (both 4-1). The only defeat was a narrow 2-3 to West of Scotland, but despite this Cumbria finished top of Division 2.
Although the team has earned promotion to Division 1 in previous years, at 55 and 60 age levels, this was only as runners-up. Winning Division 2 this year has been a first for the team. Very few Cumbria county teams get to play in the top division of the Inter-County League, so for the Cumbria over 65's it is a notable achievement.
The team was comprised mostly of players from the Kendal and District Tennis League : John Bell (capt : North Lonsdale, Grange over Sands), Brian Houston (North Lonsdale, Grange over Sands),Graham Honeybone (Heversham), Peter Helme (Wanderers, Ulverston),and were supplemented by Roger Ridley (Cavendish, Carlisle ) and Bryan Knowles
