Tennis balls, towels and strawberries; all staples of Wimbledon fortnight, but a Cumbrian bakery will also feature at this year’s championships. Traybakes Ltd will be serving up their delicious slices in their thousands at the All England Lawn Tennis Club for the second year running.
Hungry tennis fans will be able to sample a slice of Cumbria alongside their Pimms as Traybakes, based near Penrith, have shipped down 4 varieties of traybakes to the Championships – Tiffin, Caramel Shortcake, all butter flapjack and Cinder Road – a northern take on Rocky Road containing honeycomb or cinder toffee as it is known locally.
This is the second year Traybakes have supplied the tournament shipping down 40,000 of their slices in 2016 in 2 instalments. Last year’s initial order of 23,000 slices was followed up with an urgent request for more which sent the Traybakes kitchens into overdrive. 30,000 slices have already been dispatched to Wimbledon with a small stockpile forming in Penrith should they require more!
Traybakes became an official supplier of the world famous tennis tournament in 2016 after meeting the Wimbledon buyers at a trade fair in London called Lunch. ‘We are obviously delighted as a small business to be selected to supply Wimbledon. With Andy Murray going into the 2017 Championships as top seed perhaps we will see him celebrating his third Wimbledon title with a Traybakes Cinder Road?
