Lorton Tennis Club’s Vincent Lofgren maintained his winter form as has was crowned West Cumbria Mini Red Tour champion for 2016. After 4 local qualifying events the top 8 performers came together at Netherhall Sports Centre in Maryport to compete for the title. Held since the 2011/12 season and supported by Cumbria Community Foundation and the Ashfield Tennis Club Fund the event provides an ideal platform for young players to grow their game on their doorsteps and the improvement of the players since December was plain to see with many matches going to the wire and beyond!
For his part Vincent dominated from start to finish coming through the group stages with 3 consecutive wins. In the other group it was Edinburgh’s Murray Watters who was making the early running winning all three but having to fight all the way.
With the groups over Vincent came through his semi-final against Workington’s Miller Wilson 10-2 but Murray had to fight back from match point down to take his match 13-11.
The final was a similar tale. Too very good players but with Vincent being the more consistent finally winning by 10 points to 3.

The competition was rounded off with a fast paced “big ‘uns, little ‘uns event with Aaron McCarthy and Elden Taylor prevailing.
