Tuesday, July 21, 2009

The 10&U clay court championships were held at Queenswood on the 4th and 5th July with the East Midlands area being well represented.

Nottinghamshire's Dominic West came through 2 closely fought matches against Douglas Macintosh and Cameron Yuill before losing in the semi final  to fellow Midlands player Alex Parker. Dominic then went on to win his 3rd/4th play off match comfortably.

Millie Devey-Smith of Derbyshire qualified for the event at Kings Park in Northampton to get through to the national stages. Millie lost her opening match to training partner Ellie Brazil before narrowly losing to Ella Reeman in 3 sets and then to another Midlands player, Megan Webb. This gave Millie overall 15th place in the competition.

Ellie Brazil from Nottinghamshire qualified for the event at Goole. Ellie is a tough competitor and always makes life difficult for her opponents. Ellie beat Millie Devey-Smith in her opening match before being narrowly beaten in 3 sets by eventaul finalist Jodie Burrage. On the 2nd day Ellie lost a close encounter against Georgie walker and then fought her way through to beat Holly Thompson to secure herself 7th place overall.

Congratulations to all 3 players
