Chesterfield Win the Race to Reach One Hundred Regularly Competing Juniors

Monday, November 09, 2009

Chesterfield LTC in north Derbyshire are celebrating as they became the first club in the region to reach the target of 100 regularly competing juniors. A regularly competing junior is a player aged eighteen or under who has played six or more recorded matches in the last year, and it is a key measure of how well a club is doing in encouraging its junior players to go and play competitively and improve their levels of performance.

Chesterfield reached the target in the first week of November to become the club in the Derbyshire Leicestershire county group to hit the magic three figures. Only a year ago Chesterfield had thirty three juniors competing regularly and have increased by over two hundred precent in just twelve months.

LTA Tennis Development Manager for Derbyshire and Leicestershire Paul Sheard commented "The team at Chesterfield have put a lot of hard work into developing their competition programme over the last year with a new mini tennis tournament programme and competition box for internal matches. They have an outstanding tennis development programme and have set the target for other clubs to try and beat."
