County tennis player Chris Simpson has chalked up another win at a Great Britain Futures tournament.
The 18-year-old, who was hoping to gain ranking points towards the ATP men's tennis tour at the event, beat Italy's Filippo Bettini 6-3, 6-1 in the first round of qualifying at the competition in Ilkley.
He was then drawn to play number two seed Christian Welte, of the USA, in the grass-court tournament but lost 6-1, 6-3.
This followed his promising performance at the Great Britain Futures tournament in Manchester, where he also reached the second round of qualifying.
The main draw of the men's event featured Brits Josh Goodall, Daniel Evans and Tom Farquharson – the latter after winning the boys' doubles final at Wimbledon.
Simpson, who is the county's top-ranked men's tennis player, will be turning his attention to playing for Derbyshire during County Week, which starts on July 19.
