Are you interested in becoming an LTA referee? Have you officiated at a local tournament and are interested in taking it to the next level? Then look no further.
The LTA will be hosting LTA Introductory Referee Seminar Days around the country between September 2010 and May 2011 and the course will run from 9.30am to 5.00pm
This is a free one day seminar will provide you with an introduction to:
- British Tennis Competition Framework
- Rules of Tennis
- Code of Conduct
- Referring duties
- Handling difficult situations
Once you’ve completed the introductory seminar you will need to gain a minimum of four days experience assisting an Accredited Referee; be required to have a free Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Enhanced Disclosure certificate and joined the Association of British Tennis Officials (ABTO) as a Trainee Referee and paid the first year’s membership fee of £20, which comprises the £10 joining fee and £10 subscription. Information on gaining these will be available upon completing the Introductory Seminar.
Once you have these you’ll then be eligible to enrol on the Accreditation Course.
The LTA will then host LTA Referee Accreditation Days between September and May and the course will run from 9.30am to 5.00pm.
This is again a free one day course which builds upon what was learnt in the Introductory Seminar by offering further training on:
- Refereeing techniques
- Draw formats
- Handling difficult situations
The course contains a multiple choice exam and, on passing the course, you’ll be able to referee LTA sanctioned tournaments.

If you are interested in attending the Referee Accreditation Course, please complete the Accreditation Application Form and return to Sarah Wooding in LTA Officiating, at least 10 days prior to the start of the course.
