Derbyshire Shine at Christmas Grade 3

Friday, January 06, 2012

The Loughborough University Junior Open Grade 3 Tournament during the Christmas holidays was the venue for some outstanding results and performances by Derbyshire juniors!

The Boys 18&U event saw the top spots battled out in an all-Derbyshire semi-finals and final, with Jay Clarke and Jamie Praditngam in one semi, and Curtis Clarke and Jacob East in the other.  This led to a Clarke family final, with Curtis eventually coming out on top in a third set tie-break.  Similarly, the U16 Boys final saw an all-Derbyshire event between Jay Clarke and Sam Ferguson, with Jay being the eventual winner.

Katy Wilson began her return to form by beating Yasmina el Sayed and Rebecca Wood to get to the final of the girls U18 although she was not able to sustain the pace in the final, losing to Alice Warburton McGee.  However, it is good to see Katy competing again!

In the 12&U age group, Millie Devey-Smith took the title in the girls event with a comfortable win over Leicestershire’s Elizabeth Allwood, 6-1 6-3.  Christian Mills got to the final of the boys event and only lost to Sahej Maker of Middlesex by the narrowest of margins, with the final score being 6-1 3-6 (10-8).

Well done to all the Derbyshire players.
