Ashbourne and Church Broughton Tennis Clubs in Derbyshire are celebrating today after receiving the news that they have been successful in their applications to Sport England for funding as part of their Inspired Facilities olympic legacy programme.
The Inspired Facilities Fund is part of the £135 million ‘Places People Play’ legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country. Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark - celebrating the link to the Games.
Church Broughton Lawn Tennis Club will receive £37,500 to fund the construction of a multi-use games area, including a hitting wall, an extension to an existing viewing area and the addition of an equipment store. The upgrade will enable the club to improve the offer of social tennis at the club and improve the amount of junior coaching at the club. Work will start on the project in August and is due to be completed by the end of September.
Ashbourne Tennis Club will receive £50,000 for the construction of three new tennis courts on the site of Gateway Caravan Park in Ashbourne. The Lawn Tennis Association will also be providing a grant and loan for the project. The development will also include the provision of toilet and changing facilities.
Paul Sheard, LTA Tennis Development Manager for Derbyshire and Leicestershire commented "We are absolutely delighted that Ashbourne and Church Broughton have been successful in their applications to Sport England. The grants will enable two of the best run and most pro-active clubs in Derbyshire to enhance their facilities and provide further opportunities for people to become involved in tennis."
Ashbourne and Church Broughton Tennis Clubs are two of hundreds of projects across England benefitting from lottery investment through the second round of the Inspired Facilities Fund. A further £10 million funding round has now been launched by Sport England to help local community sports groups to upgrade their facilities and more information on this can be found at www.sportengland.org/inspiredfacilities. Bids will be accepted from 23 July 2012.
‘Places People Play’ is being delivered by Sport England, working in partnership with the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the British Paralympic Association (BPA), with the backing of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the London 2012 Inspire mark.
