We are very proud that one of our well-known local tennis youngsters was chosen to carry the Olympic Torch as the relay passed through Derbyshire.
Katy Wilson, from Pinxton, was chosen to run part of the Chesterfield leg of the relay.
Katy was a torch bearer in Calow on 29th June and it was a completely crazy day! There were so many people there and they all seemed to want to have their photos taken with her.
The BBC took a liking to Katy and they did some filming at Derbyshire Tennis Centre the week before and sent a camera crew to film her part of the relay.
They also asked Katy and Pete, her Dad, to go to Derby City Centre in the evening for yet another interview! Katy was amazed by all the attention, but would definitely do it all again.
I nominated Katy because of her brilliant attitude to having Cystic Fibrosis and towards playing tennis. This last year has been a difficult one health-wise for Katy and she has not been able to play as well, or as much, as usual but she is determined that having Cystic Fibrosis will not rule her life.
Katy never complains about having Cystic Fibrosis and never asks for any special treatment. She just keeps on smiling and keeps on playing tennis.
