Harpur Hill Primary School claimed victory in the Y3&4 mini tennis event of the Derbyshire School Games held on Thursday 21st June at Derbyshire County Cricket Club. The tennis event was one of a number of sports that made up the first ever Derbyshire Summer School Games. Despite heavy rain on the day of the event, it wasn't enough to dampen the spirits of the young players who battled it out on the day. Harpur Hill emerged victorious from the eight schools that had qualified through the various events that have been taking place at all the School Sports Partnerships throughout Derbyshire over the last two months. In the final plays Harpur Hill beat Curzon Primary in a closely contested match. There are 46 county festivals taking part across the country over the summer of which tennis is a part of 43, and hundreds of young tennis players from all over Derbyshire have taken part in the tennis competitions. Paul Sheard, LTA Tennis Development Manager for Derbyshire and Leicestershire commented "The Derbyshire School Games proved to be a fantastic event which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that took part. There was a tremendous atmosphere throughout the finals and the matches were played in a great spirit by all the children taking part." Paul continued "I'd like to thank Derbyshire Sport for all their efforts with the wider organisation of the Games and all the leaders who helped on the day."
