Nine players represented Derbyshire at this year's AEGON 10U County Cup – but neither the boys' nor the girls' teams managed to qualify for the finals.
Both sides faced Cheshire, Durham and Cleveland, Lancashire and Yorkshire in their round-robin section of the tournament.
Each match comprised three singles and one doubles rubber, with the boys – Ben Porter, 10, Ned Smith, 10, Ethan Watson, nine, and Morgan Hodgson, nine – travelling to Batley Sports and Tennis Centre, in West Yorkshire.
They opened their account with a 3-1 win over Durham and Cleveland, Porter and Watson winning their singles match before combining to take the doubles.
This was followed by a 4-0 loss to Yorkshire – with Derbyshire unable to win any sets – and a tighter 3-1 defeat to Lancashire, where Hodgson triumphed 4-1, 4-1 for the winning rubber.
The boys also lost their final match to Cheshire 3-1, although Porter and Watson took the doubles to three sets before losing. Porter won his singles after his opponent retired.
Assistant captain Chris Frosin said: "It was a relatively young team compared with other counties but they did very well.
"The first day, when we beat Durham, Ben played at one, Ned at two and Ethan at three, with Ben and Ethan playing a great doubles match. They sealed the victory with a confident display.
"The Yorkshire team were really strong and competed very well but I think all three singles playersworked hard for their wins and Ned and Morgan held their own before losing the doubles.
"Morgan then pulled out a great victory against Lancashire, playing at three. He confidently moved his opponent well and it was a great result considering his age.
"Ben then played some of his best tennis of the tournament against the Lancashire number one and he was finally beaten in a match tie-break.
"Against Cheshire, the doubles match was very important and a win would have taken us to a match tie-break shoot out but, unfortunately, we lost.
"But I really think all the boys played some exhilarating tennis at times."
The girls' team of Hannah Barnden, Mae Fitzgerald, Orla Gorman, Chloe King and Marleyna Trifunovic also beat Durham and Cleveland, winning all their rubbers, but lost 3-1 against Yorkshire.
This was followed by another 3-1 loss to Cheshire and a 4-0 defeat to Lancashire. Barden enjoyed a strong tournament – winning four of her six singles and doubles matches.
