Rising Derby sport stars have shared an £11,600 bursary pot from Podium – a scheme to help local athletes in their bid to reach the top.
A total of 54 athletes who live in Derby or compete for clubs in the city have each received a bursary of between £150 and £400 to help them meet training-related costs.
The selected athletes compete in a wide variety of sports from athletics, badminton and basketball, to swimming, table tennis and tennis.
Many of them already compete for England or Great Britain in their chosen sport, while others are part of a recognised national development squad or development squad aligned to a professional sports club.
Podium is backed by Derbyshire's sport and business scheme ICON, with money raised from the scheme used to support local athletes.
Members of ICON include Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derby College and John Felix Films, together with more than 45 other local organisations.
