Jane captains England to vet Four Nations victory

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

County veteran player of the year Jane Rushby helped England to victory at the Four Nations tournament in Bolton.

Rushby – who was given the title at this year's Derbyshire Tennis awards – competed with two other women, Jenny Cox and Jane Timms, in the over-55 section of the event.

They took on Scotland, Ireland and Wales and played two singles and one doubles rubber against their opponents.

And their respective 3-0, 3-0 and 2-1 wins contributed to England's overall win in the championship, with teams of men aged over 55, 60 and 65 and women aged over 60 and 65 also taking part.

Rushby, 56, who captained her team, said: "I lost my singles on the final day against Wales and was a bit disappointed about that but, overall, I felt we did really well.

"It did come down to the final day and, had we not won the deciding doubles, I think it would have come down to the amount of rubbers we'd won across the weekend.

"But we all thoroughly enjoyed the event and it was great to see England do so well."
