The opening of the new multi sport court at Church Broughton TC took place on Sunday 14th July. Heather Wheeler, the MP for South Derbyshire performed the ribbon cutting duties to officially open the new court.

The court was built following a grant of £37,500k from the Sport England Inspired Facilities fund, with the club also contributing to the cost of the new facilities. The court is marked for a number of sports including mini tennis and the full game and also has a practice wall for young players.

Heather Wheeler was joined by club chairman Hector Taylor as well as a number of local dignitaries for the court opening. Church Broughton TC also took the opportunity to hold their annual open day to capitalise on the interest in tennis following Andy Murray's recent success at Wimbledon. There was a big turnout in the sunshine, with local children enjoying the chance to play mini tennis and have a go against the ball machine.

There was also an exhibition match involving newly crowned Derbyshire mens singles champion Tom Rushby, together with his brothers James and Ben.

Paul Sheard, LTA Tennis Development Manager for Derbyshire and Leicestershire commented "It was great to see the new facilities officially opened at Church Broughton. The club do a fantastic job in South Derbyshire and the new court will help even more people get involved in tennis. It was brilliant to see such a good turn out in the sunshine and it's hopefully the first step in inspiring the next generation of tennis players to take up tennis".
