There have been changes made this year to the PDHSports.com County Championships, formerly called the PDHSports.com Closed Championships. The changes are aimed at increasing the number of entries in the county championships, encouraging more club players to enter and to take account of the results from the Survey Monkey questionnaire carried out on last year’s Championships.
Instead of playing all age groups, Juniors, Seniors and Veterans in what was called the ‘Festival of Tennis’ which took place over one week at the end of August, there will be three separate county championships. These will consist of;
The County Championships (formerly County Senior Closed) which will be open to all Derbyshire players from yellow ball juniors up to any age, to be played at Duffield Tennis Club from Saturday 6th July to Saturday 13th July. The Singles events will consist of a progressive draw where the event is split into a number of rating sections with the two finalists of each section progressing to the next section, resulting in a county winner for each ratings section. This gives players the opportunity to compete at their own level.
The Junior Championships will take place at Duffield Tennis Club (Derbyshire Tennis Centre for MT Reds) from Monday 26th to 31st August. Changes are under consideration to attract more juniors to enter, again taking note of the Survey Monkey questionnaire.
It is proposed to hold the Senior Championships (formerly Veterans) over a weekend, this being the view of all Senior players who replied to the questionnaire. A date and venue is still to be decided, but will probably be September/early October.
