Friday, March 14, 2014

A Derbyshire secondary school is to improve its sports amenities by building a multi-use games court.

Anthony Gell School, in Wirksworth, has applied to Derbyshire County Council for permission to go ahead with the £436,000 scheme, which will be self-funded and not require council money.

It will also include a car park, tennis courts and resurfacing an artificial grass pitch.

Funding has also come from a variety of sources, including: Sport England; Matlock Baileans Hockey Club; Wirksworth Colts, Derwent Men's Hockey Club; Derbyshire Dales District Council; Wirksworth Town Council; Wirksworth Sports Group and Wirksworth Town Football Club.

The county council is expected to give permission for plans at its cabinet meeting next Tuesday.
