Newlands LTC Glasgow, birth place of Andy Murray, was the host club for the 2014 Senior Players Four Nations Championships.
However, the host nation was beaten into second position by the English teams with Ireland & Wales trailing in joint 3rd place.
Church Broughton's Jane Rushby captained the ladies England 55s team, who earned more than their share of points towards the overall total. They beat each of the three countries 3-0, losing only 1 set throughout the tie, to the Scottish team.
It was a terrific effort by the the team of three - Jane Rushby ( Derbyshire) Libby Eden ( Essex) & Hazel Lindfield ( Kent)
The weekend, generously hosted by Tennis Scotland also included a Civic Reception in Glasgow City Chambers & a Championship dinner at Sherbrooke Castle.
It is an honour to be asked to represent your country as well as compete at this level.
The final day was of course tinged with sadness as the death of Elena Baltacha was announced. Newlands was, in fact, her home club where she made many appearances for the teams there. Several of the Scottish team were particularly emotional as they shared memories of playing team tennis with Bally in her formative years. A total of over 150 competitors, officials & supporters lined the courts for a minutes silence at the end of play.
