Tracy Brown, team captain, reports:
Play started on Saturday with the biggest challenge - Avon. The girls knew this was a tough battle and approached it with a fantastic attitude, we came away with very little on paper 3.0 down after the singles and eventually it was 4-0 to Avon, but everyone enjoyed the experience.
Next came Somerset. Rosie lead the way at No.1 and won 4.0 4.0, followed by Evie, who won 4.2 4.0, then came a brilliant win for Daisy who battled for what was the longest match of the day resulting in a very proud moment as she won 10.7 in the 3rd set tie break. All the girls rushed on court to congratulate her…. 3-0 Devon, and a comfortable win in the doubles for Rosie and Amelie gave us 4-0.
Talk turned to the forecast for the following day, thunder storms and heavy rain! The referee chatted with Captains and the decision to try and get the event finished in 1 day was made.
Next up Dorset, 2-1 down after the singles! The girls battled hard in the doubles to take it to 2-2, we then did a match shoot out which would have eventually given us 2nd place with victory. Unfortunately, we lost but the girls gave it their all.
Last matches and everyone was incredibly tired, but I was surprised and delighted that the girls were volunteering to play. New Devon players Daisy and Amelie, along with Rosie played singles 2-1 to Devon, then Evie and Amelie won the doubles! We finished play at 8pm - all the girls enjoyed the experience, made new team mates and most of all were proud to represent DEVON!!!
