This year's Vernon Weaver tourrnament was held at the South Devon Tennis Centre in Ivybridge on Sunday 12th April.
In the ladies semi finals, The Devonshire defeated Westward Ho! 4-0 whilst Victoria Park had a very close encounter with Exwick, winning 3-1, but with 2 matches being decided on Championship tiebreaks. In the Men’s semi finals Hill Lane beat Dawlish 3-1 and Westward Ho! beat Exwick by the same score.
The finals were played in the afternoon. In the ladies event a strong Devonshire team retained their title. The team of Tamsin and Shannon Sandy, Natalie Hepburn and Mae Dartnell were not only unbeaten all day but are also the youngest ever team to win the title, the oldest player being 19.
The Men’s Final again produced some very high quality tennis and was won by Westward Ho! for the second time in the club’s history beating Hill Lane 3-1. Matt Johns and Lewie Parker were undefeated, winning their last rubber 16-14 in the Championship tiebreak, the other pair in the winning team were Dan Grigg and Andrew Hearn.
