This year the Vernon Weaver was held at Tarka Tennis Centre. In the Mens’ event, unfortunately Teignmouth who were representing the Exeter League were unable to get a team and pulled out the night before. Atlantic Racquet Centre (formerly Westward Ho! TC) kindly provided a team at short notice so that Budleigh could have a friendly match in the morning. In the other semi final Hill Lane (Plymouth league) beat Tarka on a countback of games. The final was a showcase of exciting tennis and ended with Hill Lane beating Budleigh 3 rubbers to one and thus another new name on the shield.
In the ladies event, Virgin Active Devonshire defeated Atlantic Racquet Centre 31-28 on a countback of games, whilst Torquay beat Exwick 3-1. The final was fiercely competed with Torquay taking the title away from the defending champions 6-4 on a countback of sets after the match was drawn at 2 rubbers each. Both Torquay pairs took Natalie Hepburn and Shannon Sandy to match tie breaks but the Devonshire pair remained unbeaten all day.
