Emma Hurst & Isabella Brown meet Tim

Emma Hurst, Alex Bond and Isabella Brown, winners and runner up in the Road to Wimbledon County Finals spent a fantastic week enjoying the experience of a lifetime at the All England Club, Wimbledon this month.

Emma told us, “Competing in the Road to Wimbledon National Finals was an amazing experience and to actually play at Wimbledon where Nadal has played and won was unbelievable. It was such a great experience and I would certainly love to play there again one day!

The grass courts were in fantastic condition and the atmosphere was incredible yet the tournament was really friendly. It was great fun as we were allowed to use the players’ facilities at Aorangi Park which included the changing rooms, showers, lounge, cafe, and Physio (which I needed for my knees!).  We also had a great party at the Debenture Lounge at No.1 Court and met other players from around the country.

It was great having Isabella Brown there from Devon too, as the tournament was so sociable and there was so much to do as well as play tennis!

On my first morning I was allowed to practice for three quarters of an hour on Championship Court 18 which had an amazing atmosphere even with an empty stand!

As for the tennis – I had a very tight first match, losing to Harriet Jones 14-12 in a tie break final set, having had match point. I beat Emily Bearne from Wiltshire 6-0, 6-3 the next day and came 3rd in my box. I, therefore, went through to the Consolation Draw and won my first match. I then had to play the no.1 seed Georgina Miles-Hilpern next  from Avon.  Unfortunately, I had to retire with bad heat stroke and a sore knee which was very frustrating as I was winning!

Despite being disappointed, there was lots to do as we were allowed to have a free tour of the grounds, a trip to the Museum and a voucher for the shop in between watching other matches. It was so interesting to see the Press room and Centre Court with the new roof on...

Tim Henman was present on Finals Day to present the trophies and to offer a special tennis clinic which I took part in. He was really encouraging on court and it was great fun trying to pass him! Isabella enjoyed receiving her Runner –up Consolation trophy from Tim as well."
