Our ladies team, competing in Division 2 of the prestigious County Week tournament (19-23 July 2010) were faced with a considerable challenge as a number of main players were unable to play.
That said, the team arrived in Ilkley in great heart aiming to do their best and enjoy the week whatever it should bring.
What it did bring were strong teams and atrocious weather! Only two days play were achieved on the grasscourts and the varied surfaces and weather conditions that all the teams faced made things very difficult.
Though the ladies may not have had too much success on court, captain Karen Clark said there was much to be optimistic about. The 3 youngest players in the team, Lara Graney, Rachel Williams and Samantha Kenshole gained valuable experience in the doubles, putting in 100% effort and making the opposition work hard for their victories. Kendal Brown and Nicki Trelease had many closely fought matches which on another day may have gone their way. Amanda Cox and Karen Clark also fought hard but were beaten as much by the weather as by their opponents!
Karen Clark rounded up the week saying, "I should like to thank all the players for their cohesive team spirit throughout the week and their commitment despite having to cope with variations in the weather and the courts."
The team will play in Divison 3 in 2011.
