The 2016 summer season drew to a close last week with the Devon Junior County Championships; a week full of great matches from players from all over the County. The County would like to congratulate the winners and runners up but also all the players who took part and played with great spirit and sportsmanship.

Most Improved Player (Toppy Anstey Salver) Ben Johnson
Spectators on finals day were treated to arguably some of the best tennis of the week with stand out matches being the boys 16U and 18U singles finals contested between twins Ben & Joel Greatrex (Torquay TC). It was honours even with Ben taking the 16U title and Joel winning the 18U final. The boys then went on to win the 18U boys doubles together.
Another pair of brothers, Ryan and Connor McCann (Exmouth) were victorious in the 8U and 9U singles respectively. With the girls 9U draw reduced to 2 through ilnness and injury a mixed event had to take place but a fantastic performance from Sophie Ryland saw her overcoming the boys to reach the final.
A special mention to Abbi Skelley competing in her last junior championships who took the 18U girls singles title for the 3rd year running.
