Exwick Tennis Club in Exeter is a thriving centre of tennis activity; the club has firmly established itself as one of the area’s leading tennis providers offering high quality all year round tennis playing opportunities to the local and wider community.
The club is based at the Exeter College Sports Hub in Exwick EX4 2BQ, the site was previously known as the Civil Service Club (CSSA), but after the CSSA went into administration the CSSA decided to not renew the lease and handed back to the council. Exeter College put in a bid to take on the lease from the city council and were successful; the college are spending £1.4m on a state of the art sports hub which will include two classrooms, offices a meeting area and changing room facilities. Work began in August with the demolition of the old CSSA building and in December the foundations for the new sports hub were laid. The completion date for the building is the mid part of the summer 2014 with the grand opening taking place in September at the start of the 2014 – 2015 Academic year.
In 2012 Exwick Tennis Club and Exeter College met to discuss a partnership link between the club and college with the aim to offer their sports academy and enrichment student’s regular participation opportunities with sessions run by Exwick’s LTA Licensed tennis coaches.
At the start of the September 2013 the partnership began with the first ever Development Tennis Academy taking place for students, with weekly coaching sessions, student enrichment tennis, free play sessions along with entry into the AEGON Senior Student Team Tennis competition, there has really been something on offer for all students.
