Boys down but not out in 18 & Under Cup
After unexpectedly gaining promotion to division 2 last year, an inexperienced but highly motivated boys team travelled to Nottingham to face Kent, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. Devon, having six debutants in the team, was expecting some tough opposition and found it.
Against Nottingham, .Rob Knight (Exmouth) in his debut match had the only win of the day despite some close matches. Exeter’s Oskar Wynne achieved 2 singles wins against Kent and Warwickshire and a doubles win with partner Jack Findel-Hawkins (Exmouth) also against Warwickshire.
Devon were relegated but will take many positives into next year’s competition.
Coach McNally said “this weekend was a steep learning curve for the boys with every match played against higher rated opponents. The team responded magnificently to the pressure they were put under to make the trip very beneficial.”
