The Devon LTA AGM on the 25th of January saw the inaugural presentation of County Awards.
Devon LTA was delighted to recognise committment and effort displayed by members of the Devon tennis community.
Congratulations go to :
Club of the Year - Sidmouth Tennis Club
Coach of the Year - Steve Ashton of SA Tennis, Exeter
Junior Player of the Year - Jack Findel-Hawkins
Senior Player of the Year - Bruce Wheatley
Volunteer of the Year - Gary Tovey, Ilfracombe Tennis Club
Grant Whillance, chairman of Sidmouth Tennis Club said, "We would like to thank Sally Fray (now Redgrave) former LTA Tennis Operations Manager, for her 6 step development plan in November 2007 to expand the Club and for Sidmouth Tennis Committee and others for their long hours of dedication putting them into effect with a great result. The advice of the Award received on the 23rd December was the icing on the cake, in this case one for Christmas”.
On the same evening the re-introduction of the awarding of County Colours also took place with players both past and present being honoured. Devon senior men receiving colours were:
Jamie Bartlett, Ross Elliott, Nick Hand, Tom Hand, Rob Kirkness, Andy Paton, Peter Russell, Gary Stewart, Lawrence Webster, Steve Wood and Peter Wright.
Ladies colours went to:
Pippa Britton, Kate Brown, Yvonne Burrage, Karen Clark, Karen Cross, Jo Louis, Jackie Nesbitt and Charlotte Wallace.
Nominations and voting for the five County awards took place in the autumn and the presentation of all awards by the President of Devon LTA, Sir Simon Day, followed the AGM which was kindly hosted by the David Lloyd Tennis Centre in Exeter.
