On Sunday 5th July Exwick Tennis Club coaches, parents and 16 children from the club went on a “Tennis Tour” to the South Devon Tennis Centre (SDTC) in Ivybridge.
The idea behind the trip was to offer Exwick 8 & Under children a fantastic experience of going on a tennis tour just like the Pro’s as well as offering them the chance to play their first competition outside of the club at one of Devon’s leading tennis centres.
The coach left Exeter at around 8.30 and arrived in Ivybridge ready for the competition which got under way at around 9.45. Red ball matches took place over the next couple of hours with parents and coaches up on the gantry supporting the players throughout the day.
The children even got the chance to put their craft skills to the test by making their own mini tennis rackets of tennis string between matches (an idea we got from the stringing area at Wimbledon one year) this went down rally well with the children.
Once the competition had come to a close at around 12 noon it was the end of the day for Exwick as we all jumped back on the coach and visited the beautiful lake and woodland areas at Stover Country Park on the way back to Exeter for a picnic in the park which finished off the day off nicely.
Exwick TC's Director Of Tennis Steve Ashton said “It was fantastic to offer our 8 & U children a great opportunity to go on the tennis trip, travel down by coach and play some matches against other children from other clubs in the area”.
