Girls runners up and boys placed third made it a good weekend for our promising young players.
Uncannily both the boys and the girls teams faced Dorset in the semi finals of the regional 10 and Under competition and had their fate decided by a match deciding tie break.
For the girls a closely fought win took them to the final where they eventually lost to a strong Avon team to come runners up in their group. The boys could not quite emulate their success and despite a hard fought defence eventually lost to Dorset coming third in their group.
The girls team of Amber Lowe (Barnstaple), Evie Stone (Exmouth) and Polly Bushby (Ivybridge) showed great focus and captain Hannah Miller reflected, "the girls worked hard over the two days and played consistently when needed, I never thought we would beat Dorset especially in a shoot out. The atmosphere was tense for everyone who was watching and for us to play off for 1st and 2nd was a great achievement."
The boys team of Connor Champ, Adam Cotgrove, Reece Allen (Exeter)and Max Kilham (Barnstaple) not only had to face opposing teams, they also had to struggle with adverse weather conditions with wind and rain making play very difficult on the first day. Despite this they had a clean sweep that day though with a couple of hairy moments! Despite such a close defeat on the second day, captain Sean Wilkinson was pleased with the team's performance and the grit and determination shown.
