Tennis fans flock to Seaton for The Great British Tennis Weekend

Monday, May 16, 2016

Over 150 enthusiastic visitors covered the courts from 9.30am to 4pm at Seaton Tennis Club on Saturday as they tried a variety of free coaching sessions from Parents & Tots, Mini and junior tennis to adult beginners, intermediates and Giant Cardio.

Local MP Neil Parish, the newly-elected Mayor of Seaton, Marcus Hartnell,  Councillor Jim Knight and Andy Malcolm from the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) answered Chairman Andy Butcher’s welcome by saying Seaton was best tennis club in Devon, for its friendliness, the range of activities and opportunities for all ages and abilities and its ability to fund major improvements, like the recent court resurfacing.

The Mini-Tennis sessions in the morning were fully booked and Seaton’s own older junior players were assisting the club coaches on court entertain and motivate much younger children in the fun of learning new skills and playing tennis together.

Adult beginner, intermediate and Cardio sessions were also well supported with some parents joining in alongside club members as well as visitors, eager to try something new and benefit from free coaching. The Men’s B team played a scintillating league match from 1pm against Exeter Golf & Country Club’s D team, securing a 6-2 victory to the delight of the crowd.

The Great British Tennis Weekend (GBTW) is a nationwide ‘open days’ campaign driving more people to play tennis by offering free opportunities to play. In 2015 almost 2,000 events took place at over 1,000 venues with over 50,000 session bookings taken and tens of thousands of walk-ups attending on the day.

Seaton Tennis club is proud to support the LTA’s GBTW campaign and hopes to welcome our visitors back to try a free coaching session and half price junior tennis camps being held over half term on Tuesday 31st May, Thursday 2nd June and Saturday 4th June.

To book a place on any of these sessions or to ask about playing tennis at Seaton, contact Jason Martin, Head Coach, on 07931-743168 or email jas@jasonmartinsports.com.

Seaton Tennis club runs more club sessions for its members than any other tennis club locally – 5 mid-week and 2 week-end mixed club sessions run every week all year round. There are 8 teams playing in the local summer leagues and the club has an active social scene with lunches and suppers, quiz nights, themed tournaments with barbecues and tennis weekends and holidays.
