Barclays ATP World Tour Finals - an experience of a life time for Plymouth youngster Jake Freeman

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Jake FreemanJake, who trains and plays at the South Devon Tennis in Ivybridge has had what he called, "the experience of a lifetime" when, as one of only 30 youngsters chosen from the whole of the country, he was a ball boy at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals this month.

Jake had to go through a rigorous selection process to win his place. There were some 4000 applicants nationwide and 550 were at the regional selection camp.  Jake was one of the 100 then invited to the national selection camp at St George's Park, Staffordshire and was delighted and amazed to be successful.

After a week's intensive training in Southampton Jake then spent 9 days rubbing shoulders with the top 8 players in the world at the finals!

He was fortunate to be one of the ball boys on court during the doubles match between Henman, Cash, McEnroe and Murray but said the best match for him was the Federer v Wawrinka semi final.  He also enjoyed an impromptu Swiss lesson from Roger!

All in all, for this young tennis player, this was the stuff dreams are made of.
